Current Governors of India 2023
Article 153 in Part VI of Indian Constitution states that “there shall be a Governor for each State”. Other important Articles in this part related to Governors of India are briefly mentioned below. –
- Article 154 – Executive power of State – vested in the Governor.
- Article 155 – Appointment of a Governor – by the President of India.
- Article 166 – Term of office of Governor – generally 5 years.
- Article 157 – Qualifications for appointment as Governor – an Indian citizen and minimum 35 years of Age
- Article 158 – Conditions of Governor’s office – must not be a member of either House of Parliament or of a House of the Legislature of any State.
- Article 159 – Oath or affirmation by the Governor.— Before chief Justice of High Court in the prescribed form in this article.
- Article 161 – Power of Governor to grant pardons, etc., and to suspend, remit or commute sentences in certain cases.
- Article 213 – Power of Governor to promulgate Ordinances during recess of Legislature.
